Man, 79, Found Dead with Head Injuries in Accrington
Police were called to St James Street, Accrington, just before 2pm on August 28 following concerns for welfare. Emergency crews discovered a 79-year-old man with serious head injuries. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two Men Arrested on Suspicion of Murder
After a series of enquiries, two men aged 54 and 58 from Accrington were arrested on August 29 on suspicion of murder. Both remain in custody. The victim’s family have been informed and are receiving police support during this difficult time.
Police Urge Witnesses to Come Forward
Detective Chief Inspector Pauline Stables of the Major Investigation Team said:
“First and foremost, my thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends at this extremely distressing time. A murder investigation is underway, and I urge anyone who witnessed suspicious behaviour in the area on August 28 to come forward.”
“Please check your CCTV or dashcam footage—it could be crucial for our enquiries. We understand this will worry local residents, so reassurance patrols have been increased and officers are conducting door-to-door enquiries.”
“If you see them, please say hello and share any information you may have.”
