Child Sex Offender Busted for Hiding Phones and Dodging Police
Robert Kavanagh has landed back behind bars after flagrantly breaking his Sexual Harm Prevention Order and dodging sex offender register rules.
Secret Phones Found at Home
Kavanagh was originally jailed in February 2018 for possessing indecent images of children. When released, strict restrictions were slapped on him, including the banning of internet-enabled devices unless police approved.
But in October 2019, Kent cops raided his home in Snodland and uncovered not one, but two hidden mobile phones. Both could access the internet and store images, with one used the very day he got out of prison. Shockingly, Kavanagh never declared these devices during police inspections.
Repeated Failures to Comply
- Missed annual sign-ins for the sex offenders register in 2019 and 2021
- Moved house without telling the police as required
- Attempted to obstruct officer checks and monitor searches
Kavanagh pleaded guilty at Maidstone Crown Court to breaching the order and four counts of failing to comply with notification requirements. On 13 October 2021, he was sentenced to 10 months inside.
Police Warn of Tough Action on Rule Breakers
“Kavanagh has been given every chance to rehabilitate but chose to ignore court orders. He’s accessed online chatrooms and blocked police checks. This shows a total lack of respect for the law and the safety of children,” said Kent Police Investigator Natalie Armstrong.
“We will do everything to make sure offenders who flout their orders pay the price.”
