Norfolk Sees Surge in Spiking Incidents Since October 2021
Norfolk has recorded 33 spiking incidents since October 2021, with most cases reported in Norwich. Other hotspots include Kings Lynn, Dereham, and Great Yarmouth. Alarmingly, 11 of these reports suggest victims were injected.
Police Launch Major Crackdown on Nightlife Spiking
Detectives are probing the spiking spree, with investigations in full swing. Chief Inspector Ed Brown from Norfolk Police’s Community Safety unit revealed officers are stepping up patrols. “More than 20 officers will man key nightlife areas in Norwich every Friday and Saturday,” he said. Their goal: keep venues safe and catch those behind these vile acts.
Police Warn Spikers: Jail Time Awaits
Chief Insp. Brown issued a stark warning: “If you plan to spike someone, expect serious consequences. We are working closely with venues and the public to identify suspects and understand motives. Offenders face lengthy prison sentences.”
Victims Urged to Speak Up Immediately
Anyone who suspects they’ve been spiked should alert venue staff and contact the police without delay. Officers will prioritise forensic tests where suspects are identified to confirm drug administration. Brown added, “Stay with anyone you think has been spiked and seek medical help if their condition worsens.”
