Drink-Driver Mows Down Three Outside Pub Leaving Victims Maimed for Life
Deadly Crash Outside Wakefield Pub
Karolina Serafin, 25, sensationally slammed her car into three people outside the Black Horse pub in Westgate, Wakefield last July. The horrifying crash pinned the victims against a vehicle. One woman lost her lower left leg. A man suffered such severe injuries he had part of his leg amputated.
Drunk Driver Twice Over Limit
Serafin, from Worksop, pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving. Leeds Crown Court revealed she tore onto the pavement around 1:25am while a police officer was handling a call just outside the pub. Tests later showed she was more than double the legal drink-drive limit.
Life-Shattering Injuries
- A 30-year-old man lost the lower part of his left leg after multiple fractures to his head, arm and leg.
- A mother of two was left “substantially disabled” and unable to care for her children, having lost her lower left leg.
- The responding police officer spent a month in hospital with broken bones to his knee and right leg.
“Due to Serafin’s unbelievably reckless behaviour, the lives of three people will be forever changed,” said Daniel Lee from the Crown Prosecution Service.
Harsh Sentence for Wakefield Crash
Serafin was jailed for three years and eight months. She now faces a driving ban of seven years and ten months, a harsh but necessary penalty for the devastation she caused.
