Hero Cop’s Medal Snapped Up by Local Police Fans

PC George Burgess’s Long Service and Good Conduct Medal has been rescued from a dodgy online sale. The medal, awarded in 1962, belonged to the beloved Kent Police officer who served from 1940 to 1964.

From Frontline to Civilian Role

PC Burgess spent 24 years with Kent Police, mainly covering Darenth. After retiring, he didn’t hang up his boots completely. He took on a civilian job at the old Dartford Police Station on Instone Road.

Medal Returns Home for Just £150

When the medal appeared online, a local group of retired Kent cops and their families sprang into action. They pooled their cash to buy the precious badge for just £150.

Community Tribute to a Respected Officer

“PC Burgess spent seven years as a police war reserve before he joined the force. He was well regarded by local residents and known to so many people in the community,” said Inspector Trevor Jenner, head of the Dartford Community Support Unit.

“It’s nice to have the medal back in the ‘police family’ and in Dartford where PC Burgess made such a positive impact.”

The medal now takes pride of place at the Dartford Community Support Office inside the Civic Centre, a fitting tribute to a genuine local legend.
