Swindon Man Slaps on Terror T-Shirts in North London – Busted by Met Police!
Wearing Terror Logos Sparks Alarm in Golders Green
Feras Al Jayoosi, 34, from Swindon, made a shocking fashion statement in Golders Green, north London, on 8 and 9 June. He was seen sporting two T-shirts emblazoned with the logos of banned terror groups – Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) and Hamas’ Izz al-Din al-Qassem Brigades.
Both organisations are proscribed terrorist entities under UK law, raising serious security concerns when Al Jayoosi flaunted their emblems in public.
Police Act Fast After Tip-Off
Local residents quickly reported the suspicious sightings to the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command (SO15). Officers launched an immediate investigation, identifying Al Jayoosi as the man in the videos and photos. He was arrested at his Swindon home just two days later, on 11 June.
Further checks uncovered that he had worn the Hamas T-shirt back on 30 May in Swindon as well.
Court Appearance and Sentence
On 12 November, Al Jayoosi appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court. He admitted to four charges of wearing articles (T-shirts) likely to encourage support for proscribed organisations — breaking the Terrorism Act 2000.
On 17 December, the court handed down a 16-week jail sentence, suspended for two years. He must also complete 60 days of rehabilitation and 100 hours of unpaid work. Additionally, he faces a two-year ban from the NW11 postcode area, or risk further offence charges.
He was ordered to pay £160 in costs plus £128 in court fees.
Police Urge Public to Stay Vigilant
“Al Jayoosi’s actions caused a great deal of concern,” said Commander Richard Smith, head of the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command. “This case shows just how important community tips are to our work. If you see anything suspicious, call us. We listen and we act.”
