Tragic Toddler Drowns in Southampton Park

Emergency services rushed to a reserve in Southampton at 8.21pm on Sunday, 30 May after two-year-old Greyson Birch fell into the water. Firefighters and paramedics pulled the toddler from the water before rushing him to Southampton General Hospital. Sadly, Greyson passed away on Thursday, 3 June.

Investigation Underway

Hampshire Constabulary launched a detailed probe into how Greyson ended up in the water. During the inquiry, an 18-year-old Southampton man, known to Greyson, was arrested on suspicion of neglect. However, after reviewing all evidence, police have decided to release him with no further action.

Police Statement

Detective Inspector Matt Gillooly said: “Greyson’s death was a tragedy, and our thoughts remain with his family and everyone who knew him.

“Officers have conducted a thorough investigation into this tragic incident, and we want to thank everyone in the community who responded to our appeals and assisted investigators. The criminal investigation has now concluded, and police will be working alongside the Coroner’s office in a continued effort to examine the circumstances surrounding Greyson’s death.”
