Thief Swipes £5,000 Bike During Cancer Patient’s Emergency Scan
CCTV footage shows a brazen thief strolling into Guy’s Cancer Centre in London on Tuesday, phone pressed to his ear. He steps out briefly, then returns and heads straight for a prized bike locked inside the entrance.
Quick Heist Caught on Camera
In seconds, the crook is seen riding off on a £5,000 Specialized Diverge gravel bike, equipped with Shimano GRX Di2. The owner is 1 Montague, a sponsorship, marketing, and media manager at Hotchillee – the organisers of the famous London-Paris cycle tour.
Cancer Patient Left Devastated
Charlotte Montague was undergoing an emergency brain scan during the theft. “The lock was gone within a moment,” she told social media followers while sharing images of the stolen bike and culprit.
“I was in the cancer centre having an emergency scan on my brain, as my oncologist feared the cancer may have spread there because of bad headaches,” Charlotte said.
Charlotte, diagnosed with stage four bowel cancer in 2018, fought back through nine months of chemotherapy and was declared cancer-free. But the disease returned last December, spreading to her liver. She is currently receiving more chemo and is scheduled for surgery next month.
