Fire Service Unveils Bold Five-Year Safety Plan for Devon and Somerset
The Fire Authority has given the green light to a new Community Risk Management Plan designed to tackle threats and keep residents safe over the next five years.
Lee Howell: “A Diverse Region Needs a Sharp Response”
Chief Fire Officer Lee Howell said:
“Devon and Somerset are fantastic places to live, with everything from rural villages and coastline to bustling cities and market towns. But that variety brings a mix of risks we must manage – ideally stopping emergencies before they start.”
“Risks evolve. For example, the rise of electric vehicles means new challenges. We’ll update this plan every year to keep ahead of emerging threats.”
“The Covid-19 pandemic taught us how fast things can change. I’m proud of how we adapted, working with partners and emergency services to keep people safe. We’ve learned a lot and will build on strong community partnerships to prioritise prevention.”
Data-Driven Strategy with Community at Its Heart
- The plan is based on thorough incident analysis.
- It reflects feedback from staff, partners, and locals across Devon and Somerset.
- Annual progress reports will be published online to track achievements.
- Prevention remains the core focus alongside readiness to respond.
