Body Found in Essex Pond Identified as Local Man

Police have arrested two men following the discovery of a body in a pond near an Essex hospital. The victim, identified as 59-year-old Phillip Lewis—known locally as “Scottish Phil”—was found in Oakwood Pond, Harlow, on New Year’s Eve after a suspicious object was reported by a member of the public.

Two Arrested Over Suspected Murder

Essex Police arrested a 52-year-old man on suspicion of murder and a 23-year-old man for conspiracy to murder. Both suspects live in Harlow and are currently in custody for questioning. Detectives launched an immediate murder investigation following the body’s examination.

Detective Superintendent Rob Kirby vowed his team would “work tirelessly” to bring the killers to justice.

Pond Drained as Police Hunt Vital Clues

Officers began draining Oakwood Pond on Wednesday to uncover how Mr Lewis ended up in the water. “It’s critical to identify potentially vital evidence,” said Det Supt Kirby.

A specialist team is working round the clock to provide answers to Phillip’s family and friends about the circumstances behind his tragic death.

Police Appeal for Witnesses and CCTV Footage

Detectives have urged local residents to provide any information that could aid the probe. They are particularly keen to see CCTV and doorbell footage from the pond area dating back to early November.

“We need anyone who has had contact with Phil since November 1st, as well as any friends or acquaintances, to come forward,” said Det Supt Kirby. “Anyone who regularly visits the pond and has seen anything suspicious in the last two months should also get in touch.”

Officers are knocking on doors nearby and expect the cordon to remain in place for several more days.
