Massive Illegal Gathering Shut Down by Police in Dorset
Police cracked down on an unauthorised event in Dorset that drew around 1,000 revellers and a flood of cars through the area. The incident was first reported just after midnight on Sunday, April 17, 2022.
High Stakes Operation in Full Force
Officers were backed by the MOD, Dorset Council, Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue, and other public services as they tackled the chaos. The joint operation aimed to minimise risks to locals and safely wrap up the event.
Deputy Chief Constable Speaks Out
“Throughout the incident we worked in partnership with other public sector and military agencies to achieve the positive resolution,” said Deputy Chief Constable Sam de Reya.
“Police entered the site and used powers under the Public Order Act to direct people to leave. Dispersing such a huge crowd safely took time. We had to balance enforcement with the safety of officers and everyone involved.
“Clearing the site without escalating tensions or creating hazards on local roads is always a challenge.
“The event began to disperse during the afternoon, but we’ll keep monitoring the area with a police presence.
“Thanks to the local community for their patience and to our officers for their dedication.”
