Firefighters rushed to a blaze at a retirement complex on Northern Parade, Portsmouth, just before 6.35pm.

Smoke Seen Billowing from First Floor

Two crews from Cosham and one from Southsea responded swiftly. They arrived to find thick smoke pouring from the property’s first floor.

Firefighters Battle Smoke with High-Pressure Jets

Firefighters deployed breathing apparatus, a high-pressure jet hose, and a positive pressure ventilation (PPV) fan to clear the smoke. Their quick action helped control the situation.

One Man Treated for Smoke Inhalation

A man from the property was treated on the scene for smoke inhalation before being passed to South Central Ambulance Service paramedics for further care.

The fire was declared under control just before 7.30pm. An investigation into the cause is now underway.
