Wildfire Rages on Pennington Common – Locals Warned to Stay Safe

A blazing wildfire tore through Pennington Common in Lymington, Hampshire yesterday, sending thick smoke plumes darkening the sky. The fire tore across two hectares of dry gorse, sparking urgent warnings from local officials.

Councillor Sounds Alarm Over Fire Risks

Jack Davies, Liberal Democrat town and district councillor for Pennington, pleaded with residents to take extra care during this dangerously dry spell. “It’s terrible to see the Common on fire,” he said.

“During times like these, when the ground is exceptionally dry, I urge people to be extra cautious around areas like the Common to avoid fires. All it takes is a discarded cigarette to set dry grass on fire.”

“As for how it started, it’s best not to assign blame until the fire department has thoroughly investigated the blaze. I’d like to thank the firefighters for their efforts in containing the fire and preventing it from spreading further.”

Firefighters Battle Blaze with Heavy Equipment

Fire crews worked tirelessly for hours, wielding two CAF jets, four main jets, and five hose reels to douse the flames. Residents were urged to keep windows and doors shut as smoke drifted across the area.

Thankfully, the blaze was contained without spreading beyond the initial area. Multiple fire stations joined the fight, showcasing rapid response and teamwork to protect the community.

Stay Alert as Dry Conditions Persist

This incident highlights the ongoing fire risk during dry weather. Locals are urged to remain vigilant and report any signs of fire immediately to prevent another dangerous outbreak.
