Dog Survives Harrowing 400-Foot Cliff Fall in Eastbourne Rescue
A dog miraculously survived a terrifying 400-foot plunge down an Eastbourne cliff, thanks to a daring rescue by the Eastbourne Lifeboat RNLI and local Coastguards.
Dramatic Cliffside Rescue Unfolds
On Wednesday, July 27th, at 3.30pm, Eastbourne Lifeboat’s volunteer crew was scrambled to action. They launched the Inshore Lifeboat to help Coastguards locate a dog and its owner, both trapped on a sheer cliff face.
After plummeting nearly 400 feet, the injured dog’s fate looked grim. A local Coastguard was lowered down the cliff to reach the pair and bring them safely onto the beach where the lifeboat waited.
Swift Action Saves Dog and Owner
With worsening sea conditions and tidal concerns, Helmsman Dean Parker wisely decided to head back to the Inshore Lifeboat station to ensure everyone’s safety.
The owner was brought ashore cold and shaken, while the dog was rushed to a local vet for urgent checks and treatment.
RNLI Warns of Coastal Dangers
“This was a very unfortunate accident,” said Eastbourne RNLI. “We urge everyone to stay vigilant walking along the coastline. If you find yourself in a similar emergency, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard immediately.”
