Ex-Met Cop Busted for Cocaine in Random Drug Test

Former Officer Fails Drug Test

Former PC Owura Kodua-Adyekum, who served with the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection unit, tested positive for cocaine after a random urine drug test in June 2022. The shock result sparked an official misconduct hearing last October.

Misconduct Hearing Finds One Charge Proven

The hearing took place on October 1 and 12 and centred on allegations that Kodua-Adyekum’s actions breached professional standards, specifically discreditable conduct and fitness for duty. An independent panel found one misconduct charge proven against him.

Resigned Before Getting the Boot

Kodua-Adyekum had been suspended during the investigation and resigned from the Met last month. Chief Superintendent Jim Read slammed his behaviour, saying:

“The public have an expectation police officers will act in a professional manner at all times and PC Kodua-Adyekum very much failed to do so by taking an illegal substance. This is a very serious matter for which he would have been dismissed had he not already resigned.”

Barred for Life from Police Jobs

Going forward, Kodua-Adyekum will be added to the College of Policing’s Barred List. This blacklist bans him from working for any police force, local policing bodies, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, or Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services.
