Drama at Seven Sisters: Four Rescued After Tide Strands Them
At 1:58pm, the Newhaven lifeboat was scrambled by the coastguard alongside Coastguard Helicopter 163 and local rescue teams. The mission? Rushing to save people trapped by the rising tide near Cuckmere Haven.
Trapped by Tide, Four Winched to Safety
Four people, including one child, were stranded on the beach at the iconic Seven Sisters cliffs after the tide cut them off. Originally five in the group, one managed to reach shore and alert rescuers from the nearby Seven Sisters Visitor Centre.
HM Coastguard quickly called in Newhaven, Birling Gap, and Eastbourne Rescue Teams along with the Newhaven All Weather Lifeboat and the Coastguard helicopter.
The three adults and one child were airlifted to safety and landed further up the coast. They were then escorted by coastguard officers to a safe location.
