Life-Saving Defibrillator Installed at Holybourne Theatre
Thanks to local councillors’ generosity, Holybourne Theatre now has its very own defibrillator. The crucial device, costing nearly £1,000, was funded through grants from two councillors and the Holybourne Village Association.
Councillor Grants Back Vital Health Equipment
Holybourne Councillor Graham Hill chipped in £550, while Whitedown’s Ginny Boxall pitched in £250. The community group added £175 to seal the deal. All funds came from the Councillor Community Grant Scheme, which allocates £4,500 annually to each East Hampshire District councillor for local projects.
Theatre Prepared to Save Lives
Holybourne Theatre, a buzzing hub welcoming over 4,000 visitors yearly, has long wanted a defibrillator. Treasurer Bob Yelland said:
“We are extremely grateful to the councillors and Holybourne Village Association for their support. Although we hope never to use it, having our own defibrillator brings peace of mind knowing that we are prepared.”
He added, “I believe every public building should have its own defibrillator. They are straightforward to use and can make a huge difference to someone’s life. I thank both councillors for their enthusiastic support and making this happen.”
Accessible for All
The defibrillator is now mounted in the theatre’s new foyer and available to visitors and the public whenever the theatre gates are open.

Cllr Boxall said: “Holybourne Theatre does a terrific job in the community and deserves our support. When they asked for help buying the defibrillator, I was only too happy to assist. I’m delighted to fund this from my councillor grant.”
Cllr Hill added: “These devices save lives, and just having one on-site offers peace of mind. The minutes after a heart attack are crucial, so I’m thrilled to help bring this vital equipment to Holybourne Theatre.”
