Old Street Man Jailed for Rape After Islington Party Attack

Luke Douglas Locked Up for 4½ Years

Luke Douglas, 21, from Old Street, EC1, was sentenced on Friday, 4 November, to four years and six months in prison. He was found guilty of rape and sexual assault by penetration following a trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court on 27 July 2022.

Horrific Attack at Islington Gathering

The victim was at a friend’s house in Islington on 4 July 2020. Around 4am, she was resting on a mattress on the floor when Douglas attacked her. Police were called to the scene, and she was taken to a Haven centre for specialist support.

Swift Justice After Relentless Investigation

Douglas was arrested the same day and charged on 5 July 2020. Detective Sergeant Sam Lockstone of the Central North Serious Sexual Offences Team praised the victim’s courage and made a tough warning to offenders:

“A woman not being in a position to force you away from her does not represent consent. If you attempt to exploit a woman for sex in such a situation then you are raping that woman.”

He added, “We are totally committed to bringing to justice those men who commit sexual offences. This case shows our dedication to supporting victims from start to finish.”
