Theft and Cover-Up Lands Cop in Hot Water

Ghalayini was found guilty of theft and perverting the course of justice at Southwark Crown Court on 29 September. The £80 vanished from a wallet safely entrusted to the Met, discovered missing by a fellow Met employee.

Swift Justice After Undercover Investigation

  • PC Ghalayini was arrested on 24 March 2021 following a probe by the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards.
  • Charged on 25 October 2021, he faced Thames Magistrates’ Court on 18 November 2021.
  • The disciplinary hearing on 16 November at Empress State Building found him guilty of breaching Discreditable Conduct and Honesty and Integrity standards.
  • Dismissed without notice, Ghalayini’s police career is officially over.

Met Police Chief Vows No-Tolerance for Corruption

“PC Ghalayini, following his imprisonment, has now also been rightly dismissed without notice following his dishonest and deceitful actions,” said Detective Chief Superintendent Caroline Haines, overseeing Haringey and Enfield. “It is really important that people have more trust in us, but actions like this understandably undermine confidence in the police. Across the Met we are working to clear out those who corrupt us and let down the public.”

Ghalayini is now officially banned and added to the Barred List by the College of Policing, banning him from any future police roles or related regulatory jobs.
