Amber Alert as Arctic Blast Set to Batter England
The Met Office has slapped on a rare amber cold weather warning as freezing temperatures plunge across England this week. From 6pm on Thursday, December 7, until 9am Monday, December 12, severe cold and icy conditions will strike large parts of the country, raising the risk to vulnerable groups.
Frosty Nights and Nippy Days Ahead
This level three alert covers much of England and parts of northern England, urging people to check on elderly relatives, neighbours, and anyone who might struggle in the cold. The Met Office warns:
“Rather cold conditions are expected to turn colder across much of the UK later Wednesday and through Thursday as air from the Arctic spreads south across the country.
Expect biting frosts overnight, with temperatures hovering just at or below freezing during the day. Wintry showers will lash some coastal areas, risking slippery ice patches inland.
Snow Set to Fall as ‘Troll of Trondheim’ Storm Hits Scotland
Meanwhile, Scotland braces for its first snowfall of the season, courtesy of the so-called ‘Troll of Trondheim’ storm. The Met Office predicts 2-5cm of snow at low levels Wednesday, with up to 10cm over 200 metres in height, accompanied by blizzard conditions in strong northerly winds.
Stay Safe, Stay Warm
The Met Office urges everyone to ensure homes are properly heated and vulnerable people have access to warm food and drink.
