Ryde Man Snaps Up Booze and Gadgets in String of Thefts
Warren Russell, 39, from Green Street, Ryde, was arrested on 5 December after a spate of bold shopliftings across the town.
Seven Thefts in Two Months
- 4 September: Stole four bottles of gin worth £128 from Co-op, Anglesea Street
- 9 September: Hit the same Co-op again, grabbing another four bottles of gin worth £128
- 9 October: Made off with three bottles of alcohol worth £105 from Co-op, Anglesea Street
- 28 November: Swiped five bottles of wine worth £41.25 at Co-op, West Street
- 29 November: Stole £30 worth of batteries from Poundland, High Street
- 30 November: Took £120 of stationery from WHSmiths, High Street
- 3 December: Nabbed various items worth £23.35 at Sainsbury’s, Union Street
Locked Up and Facing the Law
Russell was held in custody and is due to appear today at Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court. The charges paint a picture of a busy few months for the local shops on Ryde’s main streets.
