Couple Charged with Murder of 2-year-old Child in Ipswich – UKNIP

A tragic incident unfolded in Ipswich as a man and a woman have been charged with murder following the death of a two-year-old girl. The distressing discovery was made by officers at a property on Sidegate Lane on Friday, 30 June.

Upon entering the premises just after 11:45am Police found the lifeless body of the young girl. An initial post-mortem examination, carried out by the Home Office, took place yesterday morning, with further tests pending. Formal identification procedures are yet to be completed.

In the early hours of Saturday, 1 July, officers apprehended two individuals in Bury St Edmunds in connection with the child’s death. The accused, Scott Jeff, 22 years old, formerly of Bedfordshire and currently of no fixed address, as well as Chelsea Gleason-Mitchell, 22 years old, also formerly of Bedfordshire and without a permanent address, were subsequently charged with murder.

Both suspects were taken to the Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning and have been remanded in custody. They are scheduled to appear before Ipswich Magistrates’ Court today.

Due to previous police contact with the deceased elsewhere, a mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct. This referral will ensure that the circumstances leading up to the tragic incident are thoroughly examined.
