Life for killer who stabbed man to death over money row – jailed for minimum 32 years

Jarrad Spence-Robinson, 26, a drifter with no fixed address, was jailed for life on Friday 7 July. He must serve at least 32 years for the brutal murder of 23-year-old Seun McMillan. The verdict came after a tense Old Bailey trial in February.

Money dispute ends in deadly stabbing

The pair knew each other, but fell out over money Spence-Robinson claimed was owed to him. Furious, Spence-Robinson got a tip-off that Seun was in Southgate’s Cowper Gardens on 2 May 2017. He raced there and launched a savage chest attack with a knife, then speeding away in his car.

Seun bled out and died in hospital the same evening. A post-mortem revealed a single fatal stab wound to the heart.

Detective vows never to give up on justice

Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie, from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, said: “Seun’s family and friends have faced a long and difficult wait for justice – we will never give up fighting for families like theirs who have lost their loved ones, no matter how much time has passed.”

Grieving mother speaks of heartbreak and strength

Seun’s mother opened up about the agony. “The impact on Seun’s death has been horrific on me emotionally and physically. I have not allowed myself to be consumed by grief, to be beaten with bitterness and sorrow. Since Seun’s death, I feel that I have not grieved, especially in front of my children.”

“The pain and loss will never leave me. My heart currently works with one less valve. When I see myself, I don’t recognise the person looking back. Seeing the pain in my children hurts even more.”

“Jarrad has never shown any remorse or respect for the murder of our eldest son. Our family events will never be the same. Shay won’t meet new family members or ever have children of his own. It’s hard to even say life goes on.”

“I thank my friends and family for their support and the justice system for finally bringing justice for Shay.”
