Disqualified Driver Causes Fatal Pile-Up on A46

Nathan Aitchison lost control of his partner’s Volkswagen Beetle and slammed into David Obada’s Fiat Punto on the A46 near Car Colston. The crash sent David’s car careering into the central reservation barrier before flipping onto its roof and coming to a deadly stop sideways across the dual carriageway — lights off, in the dead of night.

Chain Reaction Crash Leaves Young Man Dead

Minutes later, the wrecked Fiat was hit by an oncoming Volkswagen Transporter van. A Land Rover Freelander also got caught up in the mayhem. Tragically, 22-year-old David was pronounced dead at the scene. The other drivers suffered serious injuries.

Aitchison, who was banned from driving at the time, fled the carnage immediately after causing the crash.

Manhunt Ends with Shocking Hideout Discovery

Police launched a massive search involving dog units, drones, and the National Police Air Service. The next day, officers found Aitchison hiding in a loft in Leicester.

When questioned, the 38-year-old denied involvement and tried to shift blame. But after extensive probes, he admitted causing death by careless driving and driving while disqualified.

Family’s Heartbreaking Tribute as Man Gets Jail

David’s family paid a heartfelt tribute before sentencing: “David left home at 17 to build a future and support his family. He was the beloved middle son.”

“He worked hard to make us proud, but everything vanished in a second. We are left with memories alone. He was taken too soon, just as his life began.”

“We will never forget his sweet smile. God bless you in heaven.”

At Nottingham Crown Court, Aitchison was jailed for five years and banned from driving for eight years and three months. He must pass a driving test before getting behind the wheel again.

Police Warn: Don’t Risk It on the Road

Investigator Georgina Luke said: “Aitchison was disqualified and should never have been driving — putting lives at risk without the skill or experience.

“After causing a fatal crash, he heartlessly fled the scene.”

“We offer sincere condolences to David’s family and thank emergency workers for their efforts.

“Let this case be a warning: driving while disqualified can have deadly consequences.”
