‘Dog Cam’ Snaps Brutal Zombie Knife Attack in Leeds
Anthony Murgatroyd’s plan to catch a furniture-chewing dog backfired spectacularly when his motion-activated camera recorded a terrifying assault on a woman in Cross Green, Leeds.
Shocking Footage Shows Violent Rampage
On November 5, following a heated argument about Murgatroyd seeing prostitutes, the 38-year-old went berserk. The camera caught him dragging the victim into the street, where he brutally punched her. She fled back inside, but he followed, hitting her around the head and yanking her by the hair.
Then, the horror escalated. Murgatroyd grabbed a menacing zombie knife and lunged at her, waving the blade near her face before making stabbing motions at her body. After hiding the knife behind the sofa—where a terrified dog cowered—he pulled out a screwdriver and shoved it in her face before striking her again.
His twisted antics didn’t stop there. He forced the victim to open a beer bottle with her teeth and commanded her to touch the zombie knife, as the camera captured her visible terror throughout the ordeal.
Escape and Arrest After Violent Struggle
The victim finally broke free and ran to neighbours for help. Police were called and tracked down Murgatroyd at his Beeston home. Arresting him sparked a violent clash, requiring officers to use incapacitant spray and draw a taser.
Despite her fear, the victim initially couldn’t support prosecution. But the ‘dog cam’ footage provided crucial evidence. Leeds District Safeguarding Unit detectives pressed charges for assault occasioning actual bodily harm and possession of a zombie knife.
Justice Served at Leeds Crown Court
Murgatroyd pleaded guilty on November 7. The judges handed him a 20-month sentence, factoring in a previous domestic assault from August.
“This was a prolonged and violent attack involving weapons, and the victim feared for her life during what was an absolutely terrifying ordeal,” said Detective Superintendent Lee Berry, Head of Crime & Safeguarding for Leeds District.
“The victim was so terrified she couldn’t support a prosecution, but the dog cam footage was key to securing charges. We’re committed to tackling violence against women and girls and will use every tool available to bring offenders to justice.”
Special praise went to PC Chloe Fennell and the Domestic Abuse Team for their outstanding work supporting victims and ensuring offenders face justice.
