Former US President Donald Trump revealed on Tuesday that he has received a letter from prosecutors indicating that he is likely to face criminal indictment in relation to the January 6 riot at the US Capitol.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump stated, “Deranged Jack Smith, the prosecutor with Joe Biden’s DOJ, sent a letter… stating that I am a TARGET of the January 6 Grand Jury investigation.” He expressed his concerns about the situation, mentioning that he was given only “a very short four days” to appear before a grand jury, a timeframe that typically indicates an arrest and indictment.
Trump, who is currently the leading candidate for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, claimed that the investigation is part of a larger witch hunt aimed at interfering with the electoral process and represents the politicisation of law enforcement.
It is worth noting that Trump is already facing charges brought forth by Special Counsel Jack Smith for alleged mishandling of top secret government documents subsequent to his departure from the White House.
