Southampton Man Nabbed Dumping Rubbish on Camera
Mr Polit of Southampton was caught red-handed dumping rubbish illegally in Westridge Road car park, Portswood. Thanks to a mobile CCTV unit, Southampton City Council tracked him down, slapped him with a fixed penalty notice (FPN) — which he ignored. He pleaded guilty in court on Friday and now faces the consequences.

Southampton’s crackdown on fly-tipping is biting hard. Two more offenders identified by mobile CCTV avoided court on Friday 9 December, leading to arrest warrants being issued.

“We’re continuing to up the ante in the battle against fly tipping. With these convictions, we’re sending a very clear message to anyone who dumps their rubbish: we will actively seek to prosecute wherever possible,” said Councillor Toqeer Kataria, Cabinet Member for Communities and Customer Engagement.
He added, “New mobile CCTV units and an expanded team of Environmental Protection Officers mean we’re taking tough enforcement actions. Fixed penalties and prosecutions will crack down hard on offenders.”
Kataria stressed, “Ultimately, it’s down to all of us to love our city and dispose of rubbish properly.”
Residents Beware: Duty of Care Warning
- If you hire a waste carrier, check they are licensed.
- Always get a receipt and keep it for at least two years.
- If rubbish dumped by your carrier is found and you didn’t check licensing, you could face prosecution.
Southampton City Council is making sure no one gets off lightly for blighting the community with illegal waste dumping.
