Nigerian Fraudsters Nabbed in South London Sting

Three men from Nigeria were locked up yesterday following a major sting in south London. Jonathan Iheanyichukwu Abraham, Emmanuel Samuel, and Jerry Ozor, all in their forties, were hauled from their homes and taken to Westminster Magistrates Court. Extradition proceedings are now underway.

Global Fraud Network Cracked

The trio is caught up in an international fraud ring, with arrests also made in Madrid and Portugal. This global crackdown was led by the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA), working alongside the US Department of Justice, the US Postal Inspection Service, and European law enforcement. Their operation targeted widespread scams that duped mainly elderly and vulnerable Americans out of millions.

The Scam That Stole Millions

Victims received fake letters claiming a long-lost relative had died, leaving them an inheritance. The conmen then pressured victims into paying bogus fees to unlock the supposed fortune. Thousands fell victim, losing life-changing sums of money.

NCA Hits Back: ‘Cruel scam targeted the vulnerable’

NCA Senior Investigating Officer David Smithers said: “Anyone can be a victim of fraud, but this scam was particularly cruel as it repeatedly and deliberately targeted the elderly and vulnerable. This joint operation shows how organised fraud spans countries and uses ruthless criminal networks.”

“These suspects will now face extradition to the US for prosecution. The NCA is committed to taking down serious criminals whose scams can destroy lives. We will keep working with international partners to outsmart and catch these crooks.”
