Kent Police Crackdown Smashes Illegal Waste Carriers in Dartford and Gravesham
Over 30 Vehicles Pulled Over in One-Day Blitz
Kent Police’s Rural Taskforce teamed up with Dartford and Gravesham Councils for a no-nonsense operation targeting rogue waste haulers. On Wednesday, July 13, 2022, officers stopped more than 30 vehicles to check if they were playing by the rules.
Fines and Seizures Hit Fly-Tippers Hard
Two vans carrying scrap metal and other rubbish were caught dead to rights in Dartford’s Bob Dunn Way and Gravesend’s Ladywood Road. Both drivers were slapped with £300 fixed penalty notices for lacking valid waste transport licences.
One vehicle was seized on the spot for being uninsured, while another was reported for dodging road tax. The crackdown shows no mercy for lawbreakers.
Official Warnings and Firm Words
“Fly-tipping blights communities and, in some cases, poses a significant health risk to the public,” warned Sergeant Darren Walshaw. “We’ll keep partnering up to send a clear message – this illegal behaviour won’t be tolerated.”
“If you’re hiring someone to remove waste, make sure they’re properly licensed,” he added.
Councils United Against Fly-Tipping Crime
Gravesham’s Cabinet Member for Community & Leisure, Cllr Shane Mochrie-Cox, praised the joint effort. Our environmental enforcement teams are doing sterling work, but these wider joint operations hit offenders harder and show there’s a united front across north-west Kent.
“Fly-tippers won’t know where or when we’ll strike next, but strike we will. We’ll take away their tools, enforce the law, and prosecute wherever possible,” he vowed.
Dartford Council Leader Jeremy Kite added, “Just one vehicle dumping waste on our roads and green spaces causes chaos. Stopping and checking 32 suspicious vehicles in one day helps protect local residents and keep our community clean.”
This ongoing partnership between Kent Police and local councils is a major blow against environmental crime, making life tough for criminals while safeguarding public health and the local environment.
