Teen Thieves Jailed for Judge’s £15,000 Motorbike Heist at Crown Court

Two brazen teenagers tried to nick a judge’s £15,000 high-performance motorbike right from the grounds of Snaresbrook Crown Court. Shay Hollis, 18, of Harrow Drive, Enfield, and Deon-Dre Rogers-Barrett, 19, of Ashdown Road, Enfield, faced Wood Green Crown Court on Friday, 2 December and got slammed with sentences for their daring stunt.

£15,000 BMW Targeted in Courtyard Crime Spree

The audacious attempt went down at 2:10pm on 16 April 2021. Hollis, Rogers-Barrett, and a third unknown suspect rolled into the court grounds on mopeds. They set their sights on a prized BMW R 1250GS Adventure TE Rallye worth £15,000 and started trying to nick it.

When a security guard stepped in, Hollis whipped out a machete and threatened him. Fearing for his safety, the guard ran inside, and the pair began pushing the bike. But all was not smooth – security quickly slammed the gates, trapping the teens inside.

The crooks dumped the damaged motorbike, then ditched their mopeds, helmets, an angle grinder, and the machete before climbing the fence and fleeing on foot.

Police Action and Court Sentences

  • Rogers-Barrett was handed 21 months in prison, suspended for 18 months. He must also complete 25 days of rehab activity, a three-month electronically monitored curfew, and pay £500 compensation.
  • Hollis got an 18-month supervision order, 12 hours of unpaid work, and also owes £500 compensation.

Investigations led officers to link their discarded gear back to them. Rogers-Barrett even tried to spin a false tale, calling police 90 minutes later to claim he’d been knifed and robbed of his own moped and phone – CCTV proved otherwise, and the “stolen” phone was found at his home.

The third suspect remains at large.

Police Praise Smart Investigation

PC Ian Croxford, from the Met’s Operation Venice, said: “This is a fine example of good police work, using all resources to bring these offenders to justice. Trying to steal a valuable motorbike from a Crown Court shows blatant lawlessness. The fact they threatened security staff with a machete shows they were ready to get violent. Let this be a warning: serious criminals will be caught.”
