Kent Police Take to the Streets in Medway to Boost Women’s Safety
Kent Police’s Medway Task Force teamed up with Medway Council, Crime Stoppers, and the Violence Reduction Unit for a “walk and talk” event on Friday 9 December 2022. The initiative aimed to boost safety and tackle concerns raised by women and girls in the town.
Safety Tips and Free Anti-Spiking Kits Handed Out
The event ran from 4pm to 7pm, with officers and officials engaging directly with the public. They targeted women and girls, handing out anti-drink spiking products, personal safety gear, and advice on best-lit routes home. They also provided info on where to get help while out in Medway.
Participants were invited to share any safety worries, which were passed on to relevant agencies to improve future local response plans.
Police and Council Urge Women to Speak Out
“Rochester continues to be a safe place to live, work and visit, but we understand the concerns women and girls have and are always keen to hear about them,” said Police Sergeant Sasha Blomfield from the Medway Task Force.
“Kent Police is committed to protecting women and girls wherever they are. If you have been a victim of violence or any offence, report it immediately so we can investigate and provide support.”
Councillor Adrian Gulvin, Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder for Resources, added: “Despite the cold weather, it was fantastic to see the enthusiasm from all partners. We’re proud to work together to make Medway even safer to live, work, learn and visit.”
