Kent Police Launches Best Bar None to Crack Down on Nightlife Crime
Kent Police, backed by Dover District Community Safety Partnership, has rolled out the Best Bar None scheme. It sets tough safety standards for pubs, clubs, and bars to slash alcohol-related crime and boost nightlife safety.
Six Top Venues in Dover and Deal Get Awards
At a ceremony on 15 November 2022 at Dover District Council, six venues scooped awards for their safety efforts. The winners included The Duchess, The Eight Bells, The Cricketers, and The Elephant and Hind—all in Dover—as well as The Sir Norman Wisdom and Queen Street Tap in Deal.
Chief Inspector Paul Barrell and Dover District Council’s Cllr Oliver Richardson handed out the certificates, praising the venues’ commitment to safeguarding customers.
Police and Council Push for Safer Nights Out
Kent Police is committed to protecting everyone in the county,” said Chief Inspector Barrell. “We want women and girls to feel safe whether at work, home or out socialising.”
“A vital part of this is working with bars and clubs to encourage responsible behaviour and ensure staff look after customers.”
“Congratulations to the venues recognised this week. We urge all pubs and bars to join the scheme to help keep the district safe.”
Cllr Oliver Richardson added: “We’re delighted to work with Kent Police on this scheme, which helps everyone enjoy a safe night out.
How the Scheme Works
- Supported by Dover Partnerships Against Crime (DPAC), Home Office, and the drinks industry.
- Businesses commit to close collaboration with police, councils and other venues to tackle crime.
- Venues must prove competency in four areas: management, staff training, customer safety & welfare, and community service.
- Accredited venues receive official signage to show their commitment to safety.
