Human Remains Found in Harlow Pond Spark Murder Probe
Police were called to Oakwood Pond in Harlow on New Year’s Eve after a member of the public spotted a ‘suspicious object’ floating in the water. It turned out to be human remains, believed to have been there for several weeks.
Investigators Launch Full-Scale Inquiry
Detective Superintendent Rob Kirby revealed the body’s discovery is “highly suspicious.” He confirmed the police have blocked off the wooded area around the pond and plan to drain it as part of an intensive search operation that will last several days.
“We were called shortly before 2pm on Saturday,” said Kirby. “The circumstances raise major concerns, but the investigation is still at an early stage.”
Victim’s Identity Remains Unknown
Police have yet to identify the victim or link the remains to any missing persons cases.
“We always liaise with missing persons organisations,” Kirby said. “But at the moment, we’re keeping an open mind about how the remains got there.”
Locals claim the body has been in the pond for weeks. Forensics results are expected by the end of the week.
Police Hunt for Answers and Justice
Detectives vow to work “tirelessly” to bring those responsible to justice as the investigation unfolds.
