South East London Flood Chaos After Burst Water Main
A major flood has hit Eltham Road in Greenwich after a massive water main burst early this morning (Friday, January 6). Transport for London (TFL) has declared a major incident as emergency crews rush to the scene.
Residents Rescued as Streets Turn into Rivers
Emergency services used boats to rescue residents stranded in their flooded homes. Firefighters helped around 150 schoolchildren safely cross the overwhelmed roads. The floodwaters have swamped shops, restaurants, and even Lee Green Fire Station itself.
Road Closures and Water Cuts Hit Postcodes Across Greenwich and Lewisham
The burst pipe has caused severe disruption, cutting water supply or leaving only low pressure in postcodes including SE3, SE7, SE9, SE10, SE12, SE13, and SE15. Thames Water is on site battling to fix the gushing break.
- Eltham Road is closed from Burnt Ash Road (A2212) to Weigall Road.
- TFL urges motorists to avoid the area due to road closures and flooding.
Thames Water Issues Apology as Repairs Underway
“We sincerely apologise if you are experiencing low or no water pressure as a result of a large burst pipe on the A20 Eltham Road in SE12 early this morning. We’re on the scene and working to stop the flow caused by the burst. After that, supplies should begin to return to the affected area. We’d also like to apologise to drivers who have been inconvenienced by the A20 closure.” – Thames Water
Ten fire engines equipped with boats are still in action as the area battles to recover from this watery disaster.
