Sniffer Dog Sniffs Out €30,000 Hidden Cash at Channel Tunnel
Police sniffer dog Ronnie has struck gold at the Channel Tunnel terminal in Folkestone, uncovering more than €30,000 in cash hidden inside a van. The cash haul came to light during a routine stop on the morning of Thursday, 24 May 2018.
Secret Compartment Pulled the Cash Game
Officers found the money stashed in a cunning secret compartment operated by a pulley system. The cash was swiftly seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act. The van’s driver, a 39-year-old man from Guildford, Surrey, was arrested on suspicion of money laundering.
Investigation Continues as Driver Released
The suspect has since been released pending further inquiries. Detective Sergeant Dan Barker of Kent Police said:
“People who attempt to leave or enter the UK with vast sums of money often raise suspicion, especially when attempts are made to hide it. Thankfully, our specialist sniffer dogs rarely miss a trick and remain a crucial part of policing across the county. We are actively investigating this case while continuing to disrupt organised crime’s profits.”
The hunt for hidden cash and crime gangs marches on — with trusty sniffer dogs leading the charge.
