Man Arrested on Terror Charges After Leeds Hospital Incident

A 27-year-old man was arrested on terrorism charges following a shocking incident at St James’s Hospital in Leeds. Detained since yesterday morning, he was re-arrested last night under Section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000. Police suspect his involvement in planning or instigating terrorist acts.

Hospital Crime Scene Cleared, Investigation Ongoing

The hospital has reopened after officers lifted the cordon and cleared the crime scene. Vehicle searches have ended in the area, but remain ongoing at other Leeds premises. Counter Terrorism Policing North East leads the probe, carrying out forensic examinations and analysing digital devices recovered from the scene.

“This is being treated as an isolated incident,” said Detective Chief Superintendent Jim Dunkerley, head of Counter Terrorism Policing North East. “There is no evidence to suggest any heightened or ongoing risk to the public.”

“The incident was brought to a safe conclusion by our emergency services,” said Superintendent Dan Wood of Leeds District. “The man remains in custody. We continue to work closely with counter-terrorism teams as the investigation progresses.”
