Step Inside the Court of Infamous Rose West – Free Open Day This March!

Fancy getting the inside scoop on what really goes down in court? On Saturday 18th March 2023, from 10.30am to 3.30pm, you can visit a historic Crown Court for free and see justice in action.

Originally set for September last year, the event was postponed out of respect following the death of Her Majesty the Queen. Now it’s back and ready to reveal the courtroom drama behind some of Britain’s most chilling cases.

Where Infamy Was Made

This isn’t just any courtroom. It’s where Rose West was tried and sentenced for 10 murders back in 1995. Justice Charles Mantell famously told her she’d never see freedom again, a sentence later turned into a whole life tariff by Home Secretary Jack Straw in 1997.

Situated in a picturesque city praised by William Cobbett in 1830 as “one of the finest spots in England,” the Crown Court has no qualms about handing down life sentences to the UK’s worst criminals.

Get Hands-On With Real-Life Mock Trials

The open day offers a rare chance to witness real mock trials and sentencing hearings. You can even take part and decide the verdict yourself! Normally, these aren’t open to the public, so this is your backstage pass to justice.

The court’s shadowy, intimidating rooms—with their soaring ceilings and plain mid-brown wood panelling—set the perfect scene. Judges in full robes watch over proceedings, their voices echoing as justice is served.

Meet the Justice System’s Heavy Hitters

“There are going to be mock trials, a sentencing court, displays of judges’ robes, and many other stalls from court users within the Justice system,” said Her Honourable Judge Angela Morris.

She added: “It would be wonderful if everyone came along, took part in the trials, chatted to stallholders, and saw the Crown Court in action, even on a Saturday.”

Visitors can look forward to:

  • Touring the court cells
  • Taking part in a mock trial and deciding the verdict
  • Meeting real judges, barristers, solicitors, and police officers

Don’t miss this gripping glimpse behind closed doors at one of the UK’s toughest courts. Mark your calendar for 18th March and witness justice in its rawest form!
