Worthing Unveils Eco-Friendly Taxi Shelter with Buzz
Worthing’s getting greener with a brand-new eco-friendly taxi shelter right in the town centre. This smart upgrade swaps out the old Chapel Road shelter for a green wonder packed with wildflowers and sedum plants.
Living Roof Brimming with Wildlife
The standout feature? A Living Roof that’s a buzzing haven for bees, butterflies, birds, and other wildlife. Packed with nectar-rich flowers, it’s designed to boost local biodiversity and create a safe spot for pollinators to thrive.
But this is more than just a pretty roof. It soaks up rainwater, traps pollutants, and cools down the area, helping Worthing fight the urban heat island effect and build climate resilience.
Safety, Sustainability & Local Pride
Installed by Clear Channel UK and funded by Worthing Council, the shelter also boasts brighter lighting and improved visibility to keep vulnerable locals safer. It’s decked out in the vibrant colours and logo of “Time for Worthing,” making it a unique landmark.
“It’s fantastic that this taxi shelter has been improved to help support biodiversity,” said Cllr Vicki Wells, Worthing’s Cabinet Member for the Environment. “Sedum flowers are especially accessible for honey bees, and I can’t wait to see it in full bloom—it will look fantastic.”
Will Ramage, Managing Director of Clear Channel UK, added: “A Living Roof on a taxi shelter is a brilliant example of how urban spaces can promote wildlife. We’re proud to work with Worthing Borough Council on this creative project and look forward to future collaborations.”
