EHDC Boss Dares Businesses to Clean Up Their Act in District-Wide Litter Blitz

East Hampshire District Council leader Cllr Richard Millard is issuing a no-nonsense challenge to local businesses: tidy up your premises or risk dragging down the community’s image. As part of a massive district-wide clean-up push, he wants companies to litter-pick outside their doors and keep their yards spotless.

Big Clean-Up Kicks Off Friday

On Friday 17 March, East Hampshire will throw its weight behind the national Keep Britain Tidy campaign. Volunteers across towns and villages will hit the streets with bin bags and hi-vis jackets, hunting down every scrap of rubbish to spruce up the neighbourhoods.

Community groups are already signing up and organising local litter picks. But Cllr Millard stresses this can’t be a one-sided effort.

Businesses: Time to Step Up or Step Out

“Businesses are a huge part of our local street scene,” Millard said. “If the district’s going to look its best, they need to keep their areas just as neat as the rest of us.”

The council is offering full support to businesses willing to get involved. Tools, bin bags, hi-vis gear — all provided. And once rubbish is collected, EHDC will handle the waste removal free of charge.

More Crews, More Cleaning

Since early March, EHDC has ramped up efforts with extra cleaning crews and vehicles sweeping streets across the district. This intense campaign runs until 2 April to coincide with the national drive.

Cllr Millard invites businesses and community groups alike to share photos of their litter picks. “Send us your snaps, and we’ll blast them on social media to showcase your commitment,” he said.
