Warriors Fall Short Against Eastbourne Eagles Despite Heroics From Ben Morley

The Isle of Wight Warriors faced an uphill battle after a crushing 30-point deficit from their away leg against reigning Knock Out Cup champions Eastbourne Eagles. Despite a gritty home performance, the Warriors ultimately bowed out to the dominant Eagles.

Late Team Change Hampers Warriors

The home side took an early hit when Adam Portwood pulled out sick, forcing the Warriors to rookie Josh Embleton, a promising Geordie junior. Embleton almost caused an upset, leading heat two for three laps before the experienced Eagles pounced and swallowed him up.

While Ben Morley started strong with a perfect 15-point maximum, Embleton’s effort couldn’t keep momentum at home. Once the Eagles edged ahead, the Warriors faced an uphill struggle against the National League’s finest.

Home Heroes Fight Hard But Fall Short

  • Warriors’ heat leaders Morley, Ben Hopwood, and Scott Campos delivered solid points, but the reserve riders were outmatched 16-2 by their Eastbourne counterparts.
  • The Warriors’ middle order failed to close the gap, letting the Eagles dominate the scoreboard.

“I don’t want to keep on, but it’s early days yet and we know we have to do better tomorrow at Plymouth than our last away performance at Eastbourne,” said Team Manager Jackie Vatcher.

Next Up: No Time to Rest

The Warriors swiftly turn their attention to Plymouth, where they will battle in a National Trophy fixture tomorrow (Friday). Josh Embleton will continue deputising for the ill Portwood as the team looks to bounce back.
