Burglar nabbed after raiding homes and businesses in Southampton
William Stait, 31, with no fixed address, has been jailed for 18 months at Southampton Crown Court. He admitted to breaking into a home and three business premises across Southampton.
£9,500 worth of tech stolen from ferry offices
On the night of 14 October last year, Stait sneaked into the Red Funnel ferry offices on Bugle Street through an unlocked window. He made off with phones, tablets, headsets, and laptops valued at a cool £9,500.
Just two days later, around 1am on 16 October, Stait pinched a bike worth £200 from a hostel on Brookvale Road.
More thefts from student block and family home
On 25 October, Stait struck again at a student accommodation on West Street, nicking two brand new vacuum cleaners worth £160 from a communal area.
Then, in the early hours of 4 December, he broke into a property in Broad Green via the conservatory while the owners slept, stealing various tools and work equipment.
Fingerprints seal the case
Police found Stait’s fingerprints at all the crime scenes, tying him to each burglary.
DS Simon Price from Operation Hawk, the Hampshire and Isle of Wight burglary taskforce, said: “Now Stait is locked up, Southampton is that much safer.”
“We know how devastating the impact of burglary can be, which is why we pledged to visit every victim of residential burglaries. Please continue to report information to us so we can continue to bring offenders to justice.”
