Surrey Imam Jailed Over Shocking Child Sex Assaults in Brighton
Abdus Sukur’s Dark Secret Revealed
Abdus Sukur, 32, a Surrey man and former imam, has been sentenced for sexually assaulting a young girl over three years in Brighton. Between 2015 and 2018, Sukur travelled to the city and abused his victim in her own family home. The victim, now in her late teens, bravely reported the abuse to social services in 2019, prompting an investigation and his arrest.
Justice at Hove Crown Court
After a four-day trial, Sukur was found guilty on two counts of sexual assault on a child at Hove Crown Court on March 17th. On April 13th at Brighton Magistrates’ Court, he was sentenced to nine months in prison, suspended for two years. He also received a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and must remain on the Sex Offenders Register for a decade. Crucially, he is banned from working with children.
Investigator Hails Victim’s Courage
“Abdus Sukur was a predatory offender who took advantage of the trust of his young victim and her family. A dangerous individual has now been brought to justice and had strict measures put in place that will stop him causing further harm,” said Investigator Tracey Dixon.
Dixon applauded the victim’s bravery for coming forward and aiding the investigation, shining a light on the dark crimes committed behind closed doors.
