Clifton Hit by Car Crime Spree: Police Step Up Patrols
Chief Inspector Chris Pearson has deployed extra officers to Clifton after a gang struck at vehicles across the area. The police are hunting a group targeting unlocked cars and stealing valuables under cover of night.
11 Vehicle Break-In Attempts Over Fortnight
In the past two weeks, the gang has tried to break into cars on Hawksley Gardens, Bainton Grove, Sturgeon Avenue, Green Lane, Meden Vale, and Leafield Green. Eleven reports have flooded in. While most attempts failed, thieves made off with a motorbike and a quad bike.
These crimes mostly happen in the early hours, when residents are fast asleep. The suspects are believed to cover their faces to avoid identification.
Police Reassure and Warn Residents
“We know this must be distressing for Clifton folks,” said Ch Insp Pearson. “Rest assured, we’re on the case and building intelligence. We’ll keep up high-visibility patrols to reassure the public.”
Pearson added the gang targets unlocked cars and are trying to open car doors without keys. Luckily, they haven’t managed to steal vehicles but are after anything valuable left inside.
Residents Urged to Lock Up and Report Suspicious Activity
Police are urging locals to:
- Keep cars locked tight
- Remove valuables from sight
- Report suspicious groups — especially those prowling driveways with concealed faces — immediately via 101 or call 999 if a crime is in progress.
“If you see groups lurking with no obvious reason, looking into cars, or acting strangely, please call us. We’ll act fast,” warned Pearson.
