A 41-year-old Man Has Been Sentenced To 32 Months In Prison After He Attacked And Stole An Elderly Man’s Wallet In September This Year

Michael Clixby, of Staindale Road in Scunthorpe, was found guilty of robbery at Grimsby Magistrates Court after being charged in connection with the incident and was last week, sentenced to 32 months behind bars on Friday 3 November.

At around 12.40pm on Tuesday 26 September, Clixby approached an 85-year-old man who was withdrawing money from a cash machine and asked for money. The man refused to hand Clixby any money that he had withdrawn and entered a store to do some shopping.

Clixby waited outside the shop for the man until he finished his shopping and followed him. A short distance later, he then attacked the 85-year-old man and pushed him to the floor.

Having stolen the man’s wallet and cash, he then fled the scene leaving his victim with injuries to his face and hand.

Members of the local community immediately came to his aid to offer support and continue to do so.

Officer in case Christopher Wood from our Criminal Investigation Department said: “This was an awful attack on a vulnerable member of our community, and I am pleased Clixby is being punished for his unforgivable actions.

“Nobody should have to live in fear, because of Clixby’s actions, an elderly man now requires day to day additional support to assist in coming to terms with the trauma of the attack.

“I hope that outcome at court provides the victim with some comfort in knowing that Clixby can no longer harm anybody in our communities.

“We will not tolerate any violence within our communities, and we are committed to ensuring those accountable for violent behaviour or actions are brought to justice.”
