Scunthorpe Man Jailed After Brutal Mugging of 85-Year-Old
Michael Clixby’s Shocking Attack on Elderly Gentleman
Michael Clixby, from Staindale Road, Scunthorpe, has been locked up for 32 months following a nasty robbery in Grimsby. The 32-year-old was found guilty at Grimsby Magistrates Court on Friday, 3 November.
The incident happened shortly before 1pm on Tuesday, 26 September. Clixby approached an 85-year-old man withdrawing cash from an ATM and asked for money. When refused, the pensioner went into a nearby shop to do some shopping.
Violent Assault After Followed Victim
Not giving up, Clixby waited outside the shop for the man to finish. Once he left, Clixby followed him a short distance before suddenly pushing the elderly victim to the ground. He then stole the man’s wallet and cash, fleeing the scene and leaving his victim injured with cuts to his face and hand.
Community Rallies Behind Victim as Police Speak Out
Local residents quickly sprang into action, offering support to the traumatised pensioner – a show of spirit that continues today.
Officer Christopher Wood, from the Criminal Investigation Department, said: “This was an awful attack on a vulnerable member of our community, and I am pleased Clixby is being punished for his unforgivable actions.
“Nobody should have to live in fear. Because of Clixby’s actions, this elderly man now requires day-to-day support to cope with the trauma of the attack.
“I hope the court’s outcome brings some comfort to the victim, knowing Clixby can no longer harm anyone in our communities.
“We will not tolerate violence in our communities and are committed to bringing those responsible to justice.”
