Among those charged are Harrison Donnelly, 20, from Nottingham, and Hanan Ameur, 22, of Islington. The pair face criminal damage charges after smashing the protective glass of a priceless painting at the National Gallery. Fortunately, the historic artwork suffered minimal damage and is now under expert conservation treatment.

The other 42 activists were charged with obstruction of the highway for their part in two slow marches that clogged Whitehall. The chaos saw police make 79 arrests in just 18 minutes during the first march, with a further 25 taken down during the second.
Out of the 44 charged, 20 remain in custody while 24 were released on bail under strict conditions. The protests caused major disruption, prompting swift police action to restore order.
