Teacher and Boyfriend Jailed for Shocking Child Abuse Videos
Zoe Williams, 30, a primary school teacher, and her boyfriend Thomas Surtees, 37, have been locked up after filming themselves sexually abusing a child. The victim’s mother slammed them as “monsters” during the Newcastle Crown Court hearing.
Horrific Evidence Found on Phones
The vile videos emerged following Surtees’ arrest for sexually assaulting teenage victims. He admitted to 16 offences and was sentenced to 15 years behind bars. Williams pleaded guilty to six charges and received 10 years in prison.
Police discovered the disturbing footage on both suspects’ phones, alongside sexual images of children as young as two on Surtees’ device. Disturbingly, messages revealed Williams urging Surtees to continue his abuse.
Teacher Abused Position to Enable Crimes
Judge Julie Clemitson condemned Williams for using her role as a teacher to fuel Surtees’ behaviour. The victim’s mother said, “Their actions are unforgivable. They show no true remorse — only regret for being caught.”
Surtees’ lawyer claimed his client felt remorse, while Williams’ defence said she had no sexual interest in children and was pressured by an abusive relationship to comply. The judge rejected this, stating both were involved in the crimes and likely shared a disturbing interest.
Lifetime Restrictions and Extended Sentence
The judge described Williams as intelligent, with a background in crime investigation and psychology, yet lacking genuine empathy for the victims. Both defendants pleaded guilty to multiple counts, including sexual assault of a child under 13 and performing sexual acts in a child’s presence.
Both face lifelong sexual harm prevention orders and must comply with notification laws forever. After release, they will also serve a five-year extended license due to the grave risk they pose to children.
