Dramatic Rescue at wittering/">West Wittering: Two People and Dog Trapped by Tide

On November 25, 2023, at 4:30pm, chaos hit West Wittering Beach when two people and their dog were trapped on a sand bar by the incoming tide. The Selsey Coastguard Team sprang into action immediately, dispatching Rescue 175 helicopter and the Hayling Lifeboat for a daring rescue.

Helicopter and Lifeboat Team Up for Timely Save

With the helicopter providing aerial support, the lifeboat swiftly located the stranded trio and brought them safely back to shore. A thorough sweep of the surrounding area by Rescue 175 confirmed no one else was in danger.

No Injuries but a Stark Warning to Beachgoers

Thankfully, none of the rescued needed medical care. The teams stood down and returned to base, but the incident highlights how quickly tides can turn dangerous.

The Coastguard urges all beach visitors to always check tide times before heading out. In an emergency, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
