Bristol Man Gets 13 Years for Fatal Stabbing in Bitter Feud

David Malcolm, 43, from Eastville, Bristol, was sentenced to 13-and-a-half years behind bars after being found guilty of manslaughter. The victim, 30-year-old Alex Mamwa, died following a stabbing in March. Malcolm was cleared of murder but convicted of possessing a bladed weapon, the court heard.

Long-Running Dispute Ends in Tragedy

The deadly clash erupted after a bitter personal grudge. On March 5, Malcolm cruised St Pauls for over an hour hunting Mamwa before confronting him. A brief fight ended with Malcolm stabbing Mamwa in the upper thigh. Despite emergency hospital treatment, Mamwa later died from his injuries.

The hostility between the pair had escalated after a Valentine’s Day fight left Malcolm with a cut above his eye. Malcolm was arrested later that night following the fatal attack.

Victim’s Family Devastated, Plans Shattered

“We will all need to learn to live without Alex because someone was so selfish as to kill our brother, son, uncle, nephew, grandson, friend, partner, mentor, support system…” said Mamwa’s grieving sister in a powerful victim impact statement.

Alex was planning to reunite with his mother in the Democratic Republic of Congo for the first time in 24 years. He had dreams of opening a restaurant and had even enlisted his sister’s help scouting locations just a week before his death.

Detective Offers Words for Mourning Family

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Walker acknowledged the harrowing loss suffered by Mamwa’s loved ones. “Alex’s family have spoken bravely about the horrific impact his death has had on them,” he said. “Malcolm now begins a long prison sentence and I hope this brings some comfort during a difficult time.”

As Malcolm starts his jail term, Mamwa’s family continues to grieve the tragic loss of a beloved son, brother, and friend.
