Met Police PC Slapped with Final Warning Over Warrant Card Scheme
A Metropolitan Police officer has narrowly avoided the boot after a misconduct hearing exposed a crafty stunt involving his special constable role.
PC Ali Haider Caught in the Act
PC Ali Haider, part of the Met’s Central East Basic Command Unit, faced a disciplinary hearing on 20-21 January. The charges? Breaching the Standards of Professional Behaviour on multiple counts, including Duties and Responsibilities, Orders and Instructions, Discreditable Conduct, and Honesty and Integrity.
The Warrant Card Delay Scandal
Back in February 2018, when PC Haider officially joined the Met, he should have resigned from his prior role as a Special Constable with another force. Instead, he deliberately postponed resigning to keep hold of his Special Constable warrant card and Oyster card benefits. The panel ruled this behaviour breached the Met’s strict honesty and integrity rules.
“PC Haider deliberately delayed resigning to retain the benefit of his Special Constable’s warrant card and Oyster card,” the panel found.
In the end, PC Haider was handed a final written warning — a stern reminder that dishonesty won’t be tolerated within the force.
